IconicSX
DBE & Odd-Eyed Sphynx Cattery
IconicSX is a small, devoted cattery based in the quiet northeast of Scotland. We specialise in ethically breeding rare Canadian Sphynx cats — with a focus on Dominant Blue-Eyed (DBE) and Odd-Eyed lines. We are proud to have been the first cattery in the world to introduce genetically verified DBE-CEL (Celestial) Sphynx kittens, confirmed through independent genetic testing by Petgeno (China) laboratory.
Our breeding program is built on science, integrity, and purpose. Every breeding cat is tested for over 70 known genetic disorders — and we’re proud to say that all results are clear. No single copy of any disease-causing gene is present in our lines. We also perform annual HCM scans with certified cardiologists, BAER hearing tests, and screen for FIV, FeLV, and other infectious diseases.
Transparency is part of our ethics.
Every DBE kitten leaves IconicSX with complete documentation — verified DNA results, BAER certificates, and full health records — so every family knows not just what they are bringing home, but where it truly comes from.
Our approach — consistent, documented, and science-led — changed how the DBE gene is recognised across the breeding world.
In 2025, IconicSX became a reference point for the GCCF when the registry introduced new GEMS codes for Dominant Blue-Eyed cats — the first formal recognition of DBE by any major pedigree registry worldwide.
IconicSX cats, along with their full health documentation, were chosen as defining examples within that framework:
• IconicSX Selina Kyle — the first odd-eyed DBE Sphynx registered in the UK (GEMS 68 162)
• IconicSX Maverick and IconicSX Bruce Wayne — the first blue-eyed DBE Sphynx cats (GEMS 69 162)
This was not symbolic recognition — it became written policy. The GCCF rulebook now states:
“The registration policy for the breed does not exclude DBE cats from GCCF registration.”Later that year, on 20 September 2025, Selina Kyle and her sire Vincent both achieved GCCF Champion titles, earning Best of Breed and multiple top placements across shows.
Those results were never about ribbons — they confirmed the genetic and structural consistency of the line.
These milestones created something lasting: a verified, transparent framework protecting DBE lines within official registries. It became a clear demonstration that ethics, documentation, and science can truly coexist in real breeding work.
But IconicSX is not defined by data alone. Our cats are born and raised at home — in warmth, structure, and calm. They grow surrounded by care, sound, touch, and trust. They learn to explore, to play, and to feel safe. We breed rarely, and only when there is a reason to continue a line — always placing well-being before quantity.
We hold both GCCF Approved Breeder status and TICA Outstanding Cattery certification — recognition that confirms our standards, not defines them. Our values were here long before any title. Because for us, breeding has never been business. It’s responsibility. It’s work that demands patience, discipline, and respect for life itself — to protect what is rare, and to build something that will outlast us.
Show Achievements
We don’t breed for the show bench — but we believe in independent assessment.
Showing is not the purpose of our programme. It never has been. Our priorities are genetic health, managed inbreeding, and temperament — in that order. But we value what the show ring offers: an opportunity for our cats to be evaluated by licensed judges against an objective breed standard, independently from us.
IconicSX Selina Kyle — a DBE Celestial Sphynx — and her father Vincent both hold GCCF Champion titles. Selina made history as the first DBE Sphynx ever to achieve a GCCF Championship and earned 4 Best of Breed awards. She and her father have also achieved Multiple Top 1–3 placements across Miscellaneous classes
We see these results as confirmation, not as a goal. When you breed for health first, for genetic integrity, for correct structure from the inside out — the breed standard takes care of itself. A cat built on sound biology doesn’t need a rosette to prove it.
But when independent judges consistently place our cats at the top, it tells us the programme is working.
Too many breeders build their reputation on show titles while cutting corners on health testing, breeding frequency, or genetic transparency. We chose to do it the other way around — invest in the science, document the results, and let the show ring confirm what we already know.
TICA Show Disclaimer:
IconicSX has never competed at TICA shows — the nearest TICA show to our cattery is over seven hours' drive away, and we have always prioritised the wellbeing and comfort of our cats over travel for competition. Our show achievements have been earned under GCCF, where shows are in most cases significantly closer. However, we chose to speak up on the TICA DBE policy because it is a structural issue — not a personal one. We recognise that other breeders working transparently with DBE are directly affected. IconicSX has formally challenged this with the TICA Genetics Committee, the TICA Sphynx Breed Committee, and the Board of Directors, and is awaiting a response.
Under TICA rules, healthy heterozygous DBE Celestial and DBE Altai cats with no documented health consequence in peer-reviewed literature can be disqualified from the show ring for having blue or odd eyes. The Sphynx breed standard does not judge eye colour, and TICA requires no DNA or health testing before registration or competition.
Since DBE expression ranges from minimal white to high-grade white, DBE is visually indistinguishable from KIT-associated blue and odd eyes without DNA testing. Disqualification therefore relies not on genetics but on what the breeder discloses or what is passed on through gossip, personal bias, or flagging within a governance structure where individuals involved in shaping breed standards and disqualification policies also compete in the show ring.
At the same time, Dominant White and White Spotted cats with blue and odd eyes, carrying a scientifically confirmed link to congenital deafness at rates of 40–80% and a direct association with Waardenburg-like syndrome, continue to compete without restriction, without mandatory BAER testing, and without disqualification.
This is not a fair or consistent standard. It is discrimination against transparent breeders working with a genetically sound trait, while cats carrying documented health risks compete freely.
While show titles and rosettes have never been our measure of quality, policies governing competition should be coherent, evidence-based, and applied consistently. The current approach fails to meet that standard.

Discover the IconicSX Difference
IconicSX is currently the only Sphynx cattery in the United Kingdom holding the TICA Outstanding Cattery Certificate. Worldwide, only 50 catteries across all breeds have been awarded this status, reflecting how selective and rigorous the programme is
This certification is granted following a veterinary on-site inspection, which is repeated annually. The inspection confirms compliance with TICA’s strict requirements for animal welfare, hygiene, housing conditions, safety, and ethical breeding practices. It is not a one-time approval and must be maintained year after year.
It is important to clarify that TICA registration alone does not involve inspection or certification. Registration only allows a breeder to register cats. The Outstanding Cattery Certificate is a separate distinction, awarded exclusively to catteries that successfully pass the veterinary evaluation.
IconicSX is part of the GCCF Breeder Scheme and is currently the only Sphynx cattery in Scotland operating under this programme, as well as one of only three Sphynx breeders in the United Kingdom included in the scheme.
The GCCF Breeder Scheme is a structured programme designed to promote responsible, ethical breeding under GCCF guidelines. Participation requires adherence to breed-specific standards, welfare principles, accurate record keeping, and transparency in breeding practices. Membership is not automatic and is subject to ongoing compliance with GCCF regulations.
Being part of the GCCF Breeder Scheme reflects a long-term commitment to accountability, breed welfare, and responsible representation of the Sphynx breed within the GCCF framework.
