Guide Before Adopting a Kitten.

Owning a cat is a commitment that can last up to twenty years. Make sure it’s a decision you can stand behind — not just emotionally, but practically too.

What to Be Careful About ?

Choosing a Sphynx: ask for proof, not promises

Not every “Sphynx” online is what it seems. A responsible breeder gives you evidence, not reassurance:

• DNA and health results for both parents not just words.

• Recent HCM echocardiograms by a certified cardiologist, dated before mating. A “three-year health guarantee” means nothing if the scans were never done, and testing only after a litter is born puts the queen at risk. Proof beats promises.

• Registration papers or transfer slips — this is what confirms a genuine pedigree kitten.

• Kittens raised in the home, on good food, with vet care, and never leaving before sixteen weeks — the time that builds immunity, confidence and security.

• Spayed or neutered before rehoming.

When you meet a kitten, check the simple things: clear eyes, clean nose, no discharge under the tail.

Look at a breeder’s history, not just today’s posts

Ethics that appear only when they become profitable aren’t ethics — they’re strategy. Before choosing a breeder, scroll back through their history, not just their recent posts.

Some warning signs worth checking:

• A sudden “refresh” of the whole breeding group. Ethical breeders refine bloodlines over time; wholesale replacement can be a way to move past health problems rather than address them.

• Testing language that appeared recently. Words like “genetic testing” or “health guarantee” mean little if they only entered the vocabulary once the market started expecting them. Ask how long testing has actually been part of the programme.

• Claims that testing “wasn’t available.” Genetic and cardiac testing has been available in the UK for years. It was always a choice.

What Makes IconicSX Different?

We don’t breed for numbers — we breed for health, balance, and peace of mind.

We only breed from genetically clear cats, with certified results for over seventy conditions including HCM. Every kitten leaves socialised, neutered, and with full health documentation and a written warranty. And the testing isn’t a one-off — every scan and pairing is traceable, documented, and repeated.

Our programme is small by design. We breed rarely and with intent, because you can’t maintain quality by treating breeding like back to back production. Our responsibility doesn’t end when a kitten leaves either — we stay in touch, guide, and remain available.
